The Theme: Management Theory to Practice

About Competition:

Teaching pedagogy in B-Schools has metamorphosed from teaching centric to learning-centric, as business has become more complex and challenging than ever before. Lecturing, the oldest and most popular pedagogical tool is no longer the only effective medium. Future managers need to establish a bridge between theory and practice in order to make learning more effective and efficient. The effectiveness of case teaching often depends on the quality of the case considered for elucidating a concept in hand. This case writing competition is intended to energize the development of cases related to indian management issues and opportunities.

The cases should addredd the unique characteristics of indian businesses, to promote substantive discussion about indian management practices and challenges.

The cases should therefore describe a management issue occurring:
  • Within an indian company in india or any other country.
  • Within the indian operations of a foreign company. 

The case studies can be based on a varity of management subjects and industries. They may address global and local issues in the area of:
  • Sales & Marketing  
  • People Management  
  • Banking, Insurance & Finance
  •  Business Strategy  
  • Business Environment 
  • Retailing  
  • Outsourcing (BPO, KPO, RPO)

Dhruva College of Management organised an International Conference on Women Leadership in partnership with Simmons School of Management, USA and Foundation for Futuristic Cities , India on 10th January 2009. The theme of the Conference was “Steering Change – Women Leaders in Organizations and Society”.

The speakers were drawn from IT sector, Scientist Community, Human Resources Development, Media, Management Advisory Services.

Moderator: Ms. Karuna Gopal, President Foundation for Futuristic Cities & CEO Confluence Consulting.

Interactive session - A SAMPLING
  • Opportunities for women in various sectors despite the Global Financial Tsunami were discussed (Hitherto Conferences discussed only Women in IT or Women in Consulting).  In this conference, there was a cross-sectoral focus with a special cant on domestic markets
  • The Challenges in climbing the Corporate Ladder  ( Glass Ceiling / Old Boys Network / Stereotyping) were discussed thread bare and ways to overcome those were nuanced.
  • Mentoring and need to Mentor was established with examples.
  • Power Dressing – Need for it, perceptions on it were discussed with much enthusiasm given the Global requirements for Women leadership in a Borderless world.
  • The Silent Killers –  health issues and financial security in women were analyzed with precision.
  • Multitasking – spinning plates, juggling balls and walking the tight rope were highlighted as competencies of women.
  • Myth breaking was done when participants agreed the Men actually Mentor and help them grow while women do have self limiting beliefs.
  • Men and Women have COMPLEMENTARY COMPETENCIES and there is no COMPETITION at all – was the final conclusion
The Conference saw cross-sectoral participation and delegates from various corporates, educational institutions, PSUs etc.
